Paris-To-Atlanta Flight Is Diverted

U.S. officials say an American citizen on a flight from Paris to Atlanta claimed to have a fake passport and said he had explosives in his luggage. The officials say federal air marshals are on the flight and that the cockpit is secure. The flight was diverted to Bangor, Maine, due to the incident. Officials believe the man’s passport is authentic. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing. Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliott says there are 235 passengers and eight crew aboard the Airbus A330, which landed safely at 3:37 p.m. EDT at Bangor International Airport. Federal officials met the aircraft at the airport. The TSA says the passenger is being interviewed by law enforcement. How crazy is that? Comment.

‘Peanuts’ gang sold to Joe Boxer owner for $175M

Newspaper publisher E.W. Scripps Co. is selling licensing rights for Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the “Peanuts” gang to Iconix Brand Group Inc., the licensing company that owns Joe Boxer and London Fog. The family of the late “Peanuts” creator Charles Schulz will also own part of the business too, giving it more control of and money from the comic strip’s legacy. Heirs say the deal announced Tuesday for the 60-year-old comic strip is what the artist would have wanted. Schulz worked for decades to win back the rights to his work, which many other artists like himself sold to appear in print. Scripps will sell its licensing unit, which also represents characters such as Dilbert and Raggedy Ann and Andy, to Iconix for $175 million. The bulk of revenue generated by United Media Licensing comes from the “Peanuts” franchise. Iconix will form a partnership with Schulz’ family, who will receive 20 percent ownership in the unit that owns “Peanuts” and pay that percentage of the sale price. Craig Schulz, one of the late artists’ five children, said the family is relieved to win an ownership interest.

Tiger Woods

Friday at the PGA headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Tiger Woods will apologize for his behavior, according to his agent Mark Steinberg. Steinberg said Tiger will not answer any questions.  This will be his first public appearance since his November 27 car crash outside his home near Orlando, Florida. Tiger will be speaking to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates. He plans to discuss his past and his future and he intends to apologize for his behavior. Tiger crashed his black Cadillac Escalade into a fire hydrant and then a tree just a few days after the National Enquirer reported he was having an affair with a New York nightclub hostess who denied the affair. A day after he paid his $164 traffic ticket, Woods’ seemingly perfect world began to crumble under what would eventually become an avalanche of allegations of infidelity threatening his five-year marriage to Elin. The couple has two children, Charlie, 1, and Sam, 2. Tiger issued an apology for “transgressions” that had let his family down; as several women reported they had affairs with the golfer.

Several of Woods’ major sponsors, including AT&T and Accenture, ended their business relationships with Woods following the crash and the exposure of his marriage troubles. But other companies, including Nike and Pepsi’s Gatorade, continue to sponsor Woods, who has taken a break from his professional golfing career. Procter & Gamble’s Gillette said it would stop airing commercials featuring the golfer for a while.

Lindsey Vonn has become the golden girl of the Winter Olympics as she dominated the women’s downhill at Whistler Creek on Wednesday. She was threatened by a shin injury during build-up to the Vancouver games but showed no signs of ill effects with a blistering run of one minute 44.19 seconds to win her first Olympic medal of any color. 10 Ways to Create News for Your Organization

American Kidney Fund

  1. We could stage a special event for AKF, like a county-wide cloths and food drive. In a college town like Statesboro I think it would do really well.
  2. AKF could use a celebrity endorser for commercials and interviews.
  3. Easter is coming up and many of us will be spending it in church so we could tie giving to American Kidney Fund
  4.  We could hold an annual event.
  5. Could hold a golf classic event where the money raised and go to families and patients in need.
  6. Public announcements about new health care laws and educate people on them in honor of AKF.
  7. Post calendars for special events in surrounding areas. By email, TV, mail, local stores and schools.
  8. Promote products that processed go to the foundation; for example, calendars, car magnets, shirts and more.
  9. Hold contests with a twist, if you win that day’s contributions would be given in your name.
  10. Awards, giving and receiving always looks good. AKF is a 4-star charity for 7 years (Charity Navigator) “One of America’s Best Charities” (Reader’s Digest).

Hope for Haiti Now

The tragic events in Haiti brought together international superstars of music and film for one of the biggest events in broadcast history. Hope of Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief took place on Friday, January 22. The main events took place in great cities like New York, Los Angeles and London. Tons of people performed like, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift and many more. Now you can buy the Hope for Haiti album and 100% of the proceeds from the album will go to Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Oxford America, Partners in Health, Red Cross, UNICEF, United Nations World Food Programme, and Yele Haiti Foundation. I think this is a great way for young people in get involved in giving back to people in need.

UGA Shooting

In Athens Georgia at The University of Georgia police are searching for marketing professor George Zinkhan after a shooting that left three dead and two more injured at a community theater near the school. Police say the three who were hurt may have been hit by ricocheting bullets. Authorities do not know what triggered the shootings, and it’s not immediately clear if any students or faculty are among the victims. They say Zinkhan was associated in some manner with at least one of the victims. The university issued an alert as a precaution. In a statement The University of Georgia President Michael Adams said the university community is shocked and saddened by the killings. Its crazy but it can happen you never really know people. I hope that never happens at Georgia Southern.

Dell Computer

I have a pink one but I put this skin on it.

In December of 2008 I saved up the money to build and buy a new Dell computer. The grand total came to just around $1900. I was very happy that I was able to get this because my older sister just got one a few months before me. My sister and I built it together over the phone with the Dell woman and I got it just about two weeks later. I loved it and was so happy that it was all mine. Well, that wonderful computer of mine started shutting down on its own and everyday it did it more often. I finally called Dell and they told me that it was my software and I needed to buy new software for $130. ERRRR!!!! I got the software and downloaded everything Easter weekend when I was home. I was on the phone for two and a half hours but it worked so I thought. Just last week it started shutting down on its own again so I called Dell because more stuff was wrong this time. I have been on the phone with Dell a total of 6 hours over the last four months. Today I was able to get my $130 back because clearly it did not work but Dell told me that they cannot replace my whole computer because it has been longer than twenty one days. OH MY GOSH! Really? So now I am when school is over I have to take it to my computer guy at home so he can fix everything that is wrong with it. My computer man’s name is Don and he said Dell does sell good computers but they themselves do not know how to fix them. I am so pissed I never want to buy another Dell again but I think it will pass. I just do not have good luck with technology, my last computer crashed freshmen year and I dropped my cell phone in the toilet over thanksgiving break. I like technology but I do not think it likes me so much. Just think about your computer buying options before you spend your money.
