Hope for Haiti Now

The tragic events in Haiti brought together international superstars of music and film for one of the biggest events in broadcast history. Hope of Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief took place on Friday, January 22. The main events took place in great cities like New York, Los Angeles and London. Tons of people performed like, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift and many more. Now you can buy the Hope for Haiti album and 100% of the proceeds from the album will go to Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Oxford America, Partners in Health, Red Cross, UNICEF, United Nations World Food Programme, and Yele Haiti Foundation. I think this is a great way for young people in get involved in giving back to people in need.

I did not get to watch any of the shows on television after the events that took place in Haiti. However, I did have the opportunity to take part in GSUnited for Haiti, a movement put together by students here at Southern. It was amazing to see so many students come together for a greater cause.

What a tragic accident to happen to a country that didn’t have much to begin with and they have nothing. Celebrities do bring a lot of attention to people so they can donate money to a legitimate organization, but I also know many other people around our college campus, Georgia Southern University, have been asking for donations of money, clothes, cans, or whatever you have to spare. I even thought that the commercial that Obama’s wife did helped raise numerous amounts of money. Also, the fact that you could text a Haiti hotline number and ten dollars would be charged on your phone bill to give to the Haiti funds make is easy to contribute. All of these efforts together, small or big have hopefully picked Haiti up from the devastating incident.
